God is interested in a more permanent solution to our problems than quick fixes. This is why He is never in as much a hurry as ourselves when dealing with what’s causing us panic and pain. He doesn’t and will never panic because His eyes remain on the bigger picture. Oh Great God of Mine. I love You JEHOVAH, the LORD!
The blood of bulls and goats couldn’t do it, so He had to come down Himself to give us a permanent solution to our fallen state so that we can be saved and justified by the Blood that didn’t need to keep being shed. No one needs to keep going to present it to Him for our atonement. It’s done, IT IS FINISHED. Jesus presented it once and for all.
When Sennacherib the Assyrian King threatened the Kingdom of Judah, Hezekiah had tried to fend him off by paying tribute of 11 tonnes of silver and one tonne of gold (imagine how much wealth this was). But it wasn’t enough. That would not resolve the situation because though Sennacherib received the tribute, he came back for more, he was sniffing fresh blood. The door had opened for him when he saw that Hezekiah could yield to any of his demands out of fear and perhaps the lust to rid himself of problems too quickly. Be careful what you do when you are under threat because whilst you think you may be solving the problem, you could be worsening the situation. Do not give your enemy any foothold.
When Hezekiah resorted to the Master, the Master said “I WILL KILL SENNACHERIB”, that’s my blunt paraphrase, because I truly desire for Him to kill Sennacherib in my life, whatever and whoever he represents. If Sennacherib can desire to kill me, then God must go after him in full force. Oh LORD help me! If the LORD kills Sennacherib, He has wiped out the whole problem from Hezekiah and His children. They would never have to deal with him and his agents/messengers again thus it being a permanent solution.
But, Hezekiah had to wait patiently for Him to perform it whilst still under heavy threat from Sennacherib. I know this is one of the most difficult of things to do. You are under threat from someone you can see with your own eyes and you can also see the weapons pointed at you but choose to wait for a God you can’t see to save and rescue you His way? Hey, He is a Man of War and winning a war takes a winning strategy – wait for Him as He sets His plan into motion. Waiting while are under pressure is a tall order for a human, but if you want a more permanent solution, BETTER LEARN TO WAIT EVEN WHEN IT SEEMS INCONVENIENT, UNLIKELY AND UNFAVOURABLE. You may even feel deserted but Wait on the LORD I say. Be patient for the Lord to perform His Word because this particular story ends up with Sennacherib dead and God’s children untouched and safe. God fulfilled His Word without fail and He is still the same today.
When He drowned the Egyptians, it was for the same reason. It was permanently deleting the problem from His children. “The Egyptians you see today, you shall see no more!” Woo hoo! It’s different from walking out and leaving them alive with the same capability to follow after you, catch up and imprison you again or even kill you. That escape would be temporary and God isn’t going to just give us temporary relief on such deadly matters. The bigger the problem, the bigger the solution must be.
Quit crying for quick fixes or relying on quick fixes because the problem doesn’t go away. It only emerges bigger and stronger a little time later. Wait for the PERMANENT SOLUTION. Give Him room to do it and be patient with Him while He is still at it because sometimes it’s a process.
