I have heard it being said a lot of times in my walk as a child of God. Sometimes some statements don’t sink deep enough until you live it or experience it.
When I peel vegetables and deal with anything plant related, I ask my children to throw the things in the garden so that they become organic fertilizer when they rot. Beginning of last month or right at the end of February, I noticed a plant that looked like a tomato plant next to my sweet potato plants. It caught my interest because I have never planted tomatoes before so I was going to watch it closely. Before I knew it, it started flowering and bearing fruit. I got more excited and had a small chat with hubby about it. He circled some soil around it for watering purposes and I started deliberately watering it to see what it would become. For it to actually germinate and grow at the initial stage, it was because of the rain. It had been raining consistently that the tomato seeds couldn’t disobey the Voice of the One who sent Word at the beginning that when it rains they should grow. It had grown out of obedience to the Divine Instruction.
As I continued to water it, the plant grew and it soon needed support. Darling hubby gave it a stick. Before long it branched off and hubby erected another stick. With continued watering the plant has grown to an amazing but mind blowing tomato bush that for me is coming with many lessons. Two days ago hubby added 4 more sticks to support its branches which keep growing and spreading. We started eating its tomatoes over 3 weeks back. To see myself picking a tomato from our garden came with so much joy and fulfilment! I look at that plant everyday with wonder.
More than the joy of eating from this plant is the ability to learn practically the power of scattering seeds. No one knows which one will germinate but germinate it does/did. I had another amazing experience towards end of 2021 when we ended up with over 20 butternut plants from seeds I had dumped in the garden to rot and become manure. Again with them, God sent rain and they germinated and grew so much such that for months we had access to the nutritious leaves we ate with joy and also butternuts which my family loved. These two are what others would call accidental success but not to God. If a seed goes in the soil and He sends rain, the results become intentional because He has designed for it to work like that. So long as there are seeds under the ground and they are alive, when He sends rain, He will bring the increase and we will harvest.
Sometimes it’s the seeds we threw and forgot about that will germinate and bring revival to our souls, fruit to our lives, timely responses and answers to our challenges. We will be amazed just as I am about how big the answer will be, how it will keep growing and branching off to provide from different angles. I look at this plant with shock because it is so big it looks like many tomato plants when it is actually just one. One tiny seed in the Hands of the Master will yield a big harvest because the One who gives the increase is no Respecter of the size of the seed. If mustard seeds can yield such a big tree and if faith that size can move mountains, surely the power to grow and be effective lies in the Owner of the seeds.
Let me encourage you, whatever good seeds you have sown and you have not yet reaped from, keep believing, not anxiously, not digging the ground to see if they are still alive, not fretting, but minding your other businesses, they will germinate, grow, branch off and give you overwhelming joy. God has not forgotten your planting, He will send rain and the seeds will have no choice but to obey. Keep on scattering them too if you still have some in your hands, they will surprise you when they show up. It is not a coincidence that God has shown me twice how powerful seeds are though they were sowed unintentionally. How much more will He do with those you intentionally plant? Keep on planting hard work in that business. Keep on cultivating that plan. Keep on advertising that product. Keep on pushing your projects. Keep on marketing your company. Keep on reading and studying. Keep on writing. Keep on knocking on those doors. Keep on holding on, believing and having faith. Keep on keeping on, soon you will see the plant rise up and its growth will shock you. He who gives the harvest will surely make sure you eat the fruit of the work of your hands.
