If Laban is rich because of Jacob – then Laban needs Jacob more than Jacob needs him.
Listen to this, Genesis 30v27 “Please don’t leave me,” Laban replied, “for I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because you are here”. Then v30 “You had little indeed before I came, and your wealth has increased enormously. The LORD has blessed you from everything I do! But now, what about me? When should I provide for my own family?”
This is always the case with many of us. The difference is always the courage to be a master over contentment in being an employee perhaps due to settling for less, ignorance and/or fear. Laban just dared to step out and be a master himself whilst many chose the route of being employees for life because they were either arrested in the minds where their capabilities lie or they did it out of fear, fear of the work associated with mastery. Many of them don’t do it because they don’t believe in what is in them. Laban believed he can do it and took the necessary steps to see it come to pass. The only problem is who he became after he succeeded; he became an oppressor and suppressor of others’ efforts so that no one grows above him. Laban covets having this advantage for life. He began to teach that what he did is for a selected few, that not everyone can do what he did because he is special and different from the rest. He made it out like God created others less than others so that the lesser ones serve the better ones BUT THAT IS A LIE FROM THE PIT OF HELL.
What is stopping you from being a master right now lies in your belief system. What has Laban told you? What has Laban taught you? What has Laban done to you? There is more to you than you think. You can do more than you think. If you take a closer look at what Jacob was doing in Laban’s business you will see that Jacob ran it singlehandedly. All Laban did was receive the profits and chow them without considering Jacob for that matter. He didn’t even share them enough to boost Jacob’s life. He only gave Jacob enough to get by. But if Jacob can run this thing singlehandedly and achieve this much for another man, why can’t he do that for himself? What’s stopping him from doing it for himself? Isn’t this a clear sign that he is the one running the show and running it successfully? Come on Jacob, Laban is riding on your success and getting the credit whilst you toil tirelessly for little or no return as Laban chooses to withhold from you.
Yes, in due season, and after Laban’s own CONFESSION which was CONFIRMATION for Jacob, Jacob picked himself up and decided to do it for himself (always pay attention to the spirit of words spoken to you). As Laban was begging Jacob to stay, his confession of the reason Jacob should stay was confirmation to Jacob that indeed, it was his efforts that yielded those extraordinary results/fruits, thereby giving him the confidence he needed to set on a new path of working for himself. All he needed to do was apply that same effort he applied to enrich Laban but this time doing it for himself. He already knew what to do, so, nothing was going to change and impoverish him. I say this because many times people fear venturing on their own because there is an unhealthy suspicion they will fail, yet, when they applied the same effort for Laban it worked. Does it change because now it is for you, how? It is the devil whispering that doubt and unbelief in order to stop you, don’t listen. Go ahead and branch off and employ the same work ethic you employed (if not even more) whilst serving Laban and you will make it and grow above him.
Yes, it’s not your biggest aim and motivation to grow above him because you are not in competition with him but you certainly will grow above him because once he doesn’t have you whom he was riding on, things will change on his side. God will show him what he was doing wrong and what he has lost by being that crooked and wicked.
Believe it, Laban needs you more than you need him!
